Strummer <3′s Springsteen
Being madly in love with both Joe Strummer and The Boss, I recently came across this note written by Joe that melted my heart.

Looks like we've made it through another year at the office....time to nerd out, here's my fav songs of the year.
1. The Avett Brothers - Laundry Room - A technical 2009 release; it was tough to pick just one song from this album. Laundry Room has some amazing lyrics (tonight I'll burn the lyrics, cuz every chorus was your name), and a ho-down ending that just barely edged ahead of I and Love and You.
2. The Gaslight Anthem - Bring it On - Another great album full of dandies. I had a new favourite song from this album almost every week, but this one was the first.
3. Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill - A perfect spacey dance beat.
4. Aloe Blacc - Femme Fatale - I was always a huge Velvet Underground fan, but never really liked this song. Well done Aloe.
5 . The Black Keys - Everlasting Light - Another song from an album packed with great songs, I could've picked any of them.
New Girl Talk
Master of Mash-up Gregg Gillis, better known as Girl Talk, is back at it with his new album, All Day. As usual he jukes a bunch of samples and throws them all into a colossal mix that for some reason doesn't land him in hot water with the RIAA.
On top of sampling everyone from Black Sabbath to Rick Ross without paying them a penny, he just gives his albums out for free. I guess thats probably one reason he doesn't get sued; there is no profit from his(?) music.
Download the album for free
Check the samples he used to make it

tame impala
Seems like alot of good bands coming from Australia these days. Been digging these guys lately, the whole album sounds influenced by "Tomorrow Never Knows", my favourite Beatles song... maybe it's just the guys voice, sounds alot like John.

I will be out of the office for the next month. Please forward all my fanmail to Mr Cross.
Ellen Foley
Move over Debbie Harry, Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett. obvs has a new classic rock crush. Ellen Foley is the voice singing with the big Loaf himself on "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". You can also hear on The Clash's epic Sandinista. Mick Jones also wrote "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" about her. She was on Night Court too, thanks wikipedia.
july
It's been a signature start to the summer at the office...just a few highlights from lately; Bartending for Iggy Pop, seeing some signature shows for free X, Les Savy Fav, Kid Sister, De La Soul....and obviously the highlight of all of NXNE, the one and only Big Freida. Got the wheelie bikes back on the road after a slow spring...alot of projects coming down the pipeline in the office for the sumer, stay tuned.
