down not out.
I'm sure anyone that has come to this page before knows it's not exactly updated daily. Things have kind of come to a halt lately. I have toyed with the idea of taking down the blog entirely to save some self respect every-time I use my email address for anything business related. However, the plan has always been to revamp things and get people interested in helping out. We have been spending our time respectively on other projects and could use some more input and content to keep the wheels moving and spark some motivation. The joy is that everything here is a blank canvas and isn't going anywhere. We are hosting a number of sites, throwing parties and plan on having the OBVS email addresses until internet gets old. So, if you are interesting in writing articles, posting Grooveshark play-lists, Podcasts, writing things on bananas, Promoting parties or running underground drinking game leagues drop me line and get involved.
Until the next post when ever that may be
Canadian Music Week 2011
With all this talk of great Canadian musicians I made up a quick and fairly embarrassing Canadian playlist. Get back to me with your own lists or suggestions. Hopefully we have some time to list some of the shows we will be attending.
The internet is getting too good.
As most of you know, the days of lining up for an album are over. We'll at least for the most of us. From iTunes to Grooveshark we at OBVS have supported the advancements in modern music whole-heartedly. I just got an email from Hype Machine outlining some really exciting news that you will be able to listen to all of your music on your mobile phone like an iPhone or Android. Along with having a great aggregation system to find out what songs are geographically popular (check out USA or CANADA) you can also follow each other and use their spy program to find new tunes. there are also other great tools for listening to music free online like last.fm, our favorite here Grooveshark and the newest addition 8tracks.com. 8tracks has full mixes created by everyone. I will try to make a couple this week at work, please feel free to follow us and contact me with any play-lists or mixes you create yourself and would like to share.

Hype Machine Zeitgeist 2010 - 50 full albums
I feel the best quote I have heard on the issue of copyright laws and free music online came from the documentary RIP : A remix manifesto:

SNOWDAY
Snowy day here at the office. I had a friend ask me about some hiphop songs that were covered. The songs by Anya Marina and Cocoroise are really interesting because the annotations of their voice really change the feel of the song. I couldn't find a better version of the Cocorosie song. If you have anymore suggestions please feel free to email me and pitch in. Enjoy :
been less right then wrong
I know we've been gone. But we are looking to come back in style.
rememberence day music for work,
Long time coming
With wes, moving into a new tattoo studio, me and howdy had to take some artistic measures into our own hands.
The flyer speaks for it self. We have the bar to ourselves finally, It's fucking ladies night.
James Ready 5.5 and funny donkey pictures.
After finding out that we have received a wave of traffic looking for "funny donkey pics", I had to digg deeper into the minds of the OBVS fan. I found out really how deep and complex you are. Here is a snip-it from Alexa.com.
The Mark Inside, Worth the wait.
Things have really slowed down here around the OBVS office. Pi spent the last two months climbing pyramids, swimming in the dead sea, romancing french women and taste testing all the mugs Europe has to offer. I have been busy with.. stuff.
No better reason to come out of the shadows then to to give you a exclusive pre-release track off The Mark Inside's long awaited album. Those of you living under a rock in Toronto I can let you know that The Mark Inside are one of the most vibrant and energetic live shows you can ever see. Personally I have seen the band almost more than any other act and still get excited to see what they have in store.
After releasing their first album static/crash, recording and touring in England with the likes of The Hold Steady, the band was left in a limbo of record label mambo jumbo described on their Wikipedia as:
"In the long wait between recording and release, the band has grappled with the current realities of the recording industry, but they remain focused and look forward to releasing a 6-song vinyl & digital EP in the fall of 2010, to be followed by the LP "Nothing To Admit"."
So you can only imagine how I woke up to this email from guitarist Gus Harris,
"this fuckin' shit almost killed the band.
but, we are coming out swinging.
12" vinyl with digital download coming in late october.
i promise.
in the meantime, brothers here is one of the songs that will be on the record.
spread the word. it's happening.
finally.
-Gus"
Enjoy everyone.
